Project L.E.A.D’s Purpose:
Project L.E.A.D stands for Legal Enrichment And Decision-making and is a crime prevention program designed to teach fifth graders positive values, self esteem and other valuable life lessons.
How much of your time is needed (less than one hour):
We need your participation to make this program a success! With the exception of two dates listed below, you need only donate less than an hour. It would be ideal if you could volunteer on several dates, but it’s not required.
Why this project needs your support:
The impact of your participation cannot be underestimated. Many of the children that attend Laura G. Rodriguez Elementary School are Latino. These children need to hear from successful people like you, who support and/ or are a part of the Latino community. The need has never been greater.
Consider the following data: According to a 2011 report by Education Week, only 57 percent of Latinos graduated high school in 2008, compared to 78 percent of Caucasians. The Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics, (2011) reports that 17.6 percent of Latinos dropped out of high school in 2009, compared to 5.2 percent of Caucasians. Additionally, the Sentencing Project reports that based on its study of incarceration rates using 2005 data, the rate of Hispanics incarcerated nationwide is nearly double that of Caucasians. These figures are not acceptable. With your help, we can use Project L.E.A.D. to positively impact our children and their future. To volunteer, please contact Project L.E.A.D.
