SDLRLA has planned a special night of theatre on Saturday, October 5, 2013 for its supporters. After a pre-show mixer beginning at 6:00 pm, we will enjoy a special performance of The Amish Project at 7:30 p.m. The Amish Project is a fascinating, fictional one woman play staring Latina actor Iliana Carter, inspired by the 2006 Nicke Mines shooting in an Amish schoolhouse in which several Amish children were killed. More shocking to the nation than the shooting itself was the Amish community’s response of forgiveness. The play poses the question: in the tightrope intersection of grief, rage, and forgiveness, which path do you take? SDLRLA applauds Mo’olelo for breaking new ground and making the valiant statement that actors of color can be successful in portraying characters from all walks of life and from all faiths.
