Former member Silvia passed away on April 17, 2012. She will be missed immensely by her family, colleagues, and friends. Silvia was born in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico and was raised in Vista, California. Silvia received her B.A. from Harvard University, and graduated from UC Berkeley’s Boalt Hall School of Law in 1993. Silvia had a law practice with attorney Marian Birge, called Garcia & Birge. Silvia’s diverse practice included the representation of plaintiffs in harassment and discrimination disputes. She was a champion of equal rights in the workplace. She was a long time member and board member of San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association. She served as the former Chair and Board of Directors of the California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation since 1993. Silvia will be remembered for her kindness, charm and warmth. Our legal community will profoundly miss our dear Silvia.
