San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association lost a member of its family yesterday. Silvia L. García passed away on April 16, 2012. She will be missed immensely by her family, colleagues, and friends.
Silvia was born in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico and was raised in Vista, California. Silvia received her B.A. from Harvard University, and graduated from UC Berkeley’s Boalt Hall School of Law in 1993. Most recently, Silvia had a law practice with attorney Marian Birge, called Garcia & Birge. Silvia’s diverse practice included the representation of plaintiffs in harassment and discrimination disputes.
Silvia was a long time member and board member of San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association. Silvia organized Law Day in North County, and participated in countless events to support the Latino community. She was also involved with the Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association, in which she made numerous friends as part of the Leadership Academy. Silvia was dedicated to the betterment of the Latino community. She served as the former Chair and Board of Directors of the California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation since 1993. She had been selected to serve as “Abogada Consultora” for the Mexican Consulate in San Diego.
Silvia will be remembered for her kindness, charm and warmth. Our legal community will profoundly miss our dear Silvia. En Paz Descanse.
